Rino Park Notes: What Is Important When You Write?

When it comes to essay writing, practice makes perfect. It is more than stating facts, and you need to have an organized train of thought to pull it off. In this guide, we have compiled the important things you need when you get down to essay writing.

Research

Every essay needs proper research in order to understand the topic. This will help you come up with the proper structure and it will avoid you being shallow. For example, if you are writing an argumentative essay, you will need proper references. Research is important since you do not want to give irrelevant statistics. Besides, the reader will want to know the basis of your argument.

Structure

There are three parts to an essay, the introduction, the body, and the conclusion. Take for example what I have done before coming to this section, I have introduced what this article is about and connected it to the first part of the body by stating what you can expect.

Paragraphs

A good essay ought to be broken down into paragraphs since reading one body of text is boring to read. The introduction ought to introduce the topic, the body expounds on the topic, and the conclusion wraps it up. For this, you will need to organize your thoughts properly before you type the first word.

Style, Voice, and Tone

Irrespective of the type of essay you are writing, you must consider your audience and this will guide you on the style, tone and the voice to use. Style refers to how you write your essay and it encompasses how you present the information to the reader in mind.

The tone is how you write and connect the words, and with the reader in mind, think of how the words will sound if they were spoken. The voice, on the other hand, is how unique the essay is to your writing style. There are two types of voices in essay writing, active and passive.

Arguing the Topic

This is where research comes in, you will need to organize your thoughts to properly argue the topic. Most topics can be quite broad, and for the essay to hit the mark, you will need to concentrate on a specific part of the topic, otherwise, you will sound vague. Creativity is key in arguing the topic in a proper flow and structure. Avoid being too general on the topic, but be focused and present your case in an organized manner.

To hook the reader, you must consider three aspects to the argument, ethos, logos, and pathos. Ethos is how you show the reader that you understand what you are talking about. Logos is all about how you make your argument sound logical, and pathos embodies the emotional support you give to your argument.

Finally, you need to proofread your essay and correct the grammar, spelling, and most importantly adhere to the subject-verb agreement before you submit the essay.
